Recycling
As a group we are keen to encourage as much recycling as possible based on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle mantra. This not only preserves scarce resources it also uses much less energy then creating things from the raw materials. Here is a summary of what can currently be recycled in the area;
- Green Box
Glass bottles & jars. Paper - newspapers, magazines, telephone directories, Yellow Pages, & junk mail. Cans (both drink and food cans + metal jam jar lids). Aluminium Foil. Clothing. Shoes. Car batteries. - Green Wheelie Bins
obtained from Sedgemoor council these hold garden waste and are picked up fortnightly (you can also purchase large paper sacks for green waste.) - At the Recreation Ground
Cardboard. Plastic Bottles (look for these symbols - HDPE 1,PET(E) 2, and PVC 3). The plastic that they cannot currently collect are margarine and yoghurt pots, green plastic bottles and any plastic bottle tops. Tetra Pak cartons can be deposited here; this includes all juice and milk cartons which are mixed card and plastic, please rinse. The plastic tops can be recycled seperately, see below. - At the recycling centre at Cheddar
Wood, Metal, Broken Household appliances and garden waste - At the recycling centre at Highbridge
Old Engine Oil - Printer Cartridges (Re-Use) - Cartridge World in Street, (Unit 3, The Bayliss Centre, High Street, Street, Somerset, BA16 0EX, www.cartridgeworld.org) promise to refill "almost any brand of inkjet cartridge". They also "remanufacture almost any brand of toner cartridge".
- Printer Cartridges (Recycling) - Jacqui Redman is collecting spent laser toner and inkjet cartridges. Please just make sure they are put back into their original packaging and leave outside her door at Wayside, Combe Batch, Wedmore. She collects them in aid of the Dogs Trust. She will also take old phones.
- If the recycling banks at the Wedmore recreation ground are full please call Somerset Waste Partnership on 01823 625700 and they will arrange another collection.
We also hold two Freecycle days each year; for information on the next one please go to the Events section. This is where you can bring all those things you don’t need anymore but that someone else may like. It is like a car boot sale but with no money changing hands. All we ask is that anything of yours that isn’t collected is not left at the venue.
We have a site on the Freecycle website which is an online version of our Freecycle days so you can give away your unwanted stuff all through the year. Click here to join Wedmore Freecycle
